I always thought that you were allowed to cycle along all of the path beside this stretch of road, the A2990 Old Thanet Way between Herne Bay and Whitstable. Signage is patchy on the sections that you are definitely allowed to cycle on on. The section between the Greenhill roundabout and Chestfield is appalling. I have occasionally cycled along there since the 1980s and some of the surface which was rough then has never been replaced. There is a sign at the Whitstable end suggesting that the cycle path ends and that cycles should dismount. From the Herne Bay end there is no signage. I saw 2 people cycling along the road as I rode along the derelict rack. As an experienced cyclist and motorist I wouldn't do that during rush hour.
